| Stolen Vehicle Burned |
| 08.19.03 (5:48 am) [edit] |
Team members were paged at 3:00 am for a burning car wreck/possible over the bank rescue 2.5 kilometers past the Weaver Creek fish hatchery. A crew of 10 members departed from base within 15 minutes.
RCMP passed us on the way to the scene, and upon our arrival, it was quite apparent (by the smouldering wreck on the road) that someone had simply torched the vehicle and departed... The group of witnesses who originally came across the vehicle claimed that they had heard "rustling" coming from the trees down a steep embankment adjacent to the vehicle. Upon further investigation, a team member located a large beaver lodge next to a small lake, but did not locate any other sign...
Team stands down @ approximately 4:30 am
The call detailed above follows 2 busy weeks consisting of 12 unique search and rescue calls (including the one above) attended by Kent Harrison team members. In summary: 1 false alarm involving 4 children floating down the Fraser River clinging to a log (they were rescued by other people on the river), 1 drowning in Hana Lake (on the Nahatlatch River - near Boston Bar), 1 missing person in the Jones Lake area (his body was later recovered), 3 missing kayakers on the Incomappleux River - 200 kilometers north of Nakusp (presumed dead), 3 roll-over motor vehicle accidents involving injured persons, A false alarm for a missing 8 year old autistic child, 1 paraglider down in the Kilarny Valley (on Mount Cheam - was determined to be okay by radio, and he hiked out the next morning without any assistance), 1 swamped boat involving a man, a woman and a dog (the subjects were mildly hypothermic after being in Harrison Lake for roughly 20 minutes), 1 stolen vehicle dumped in the Fraser River (and recovered with our assistance).
